Hacienda Vieja Serves it up Right

 

About once a week or biweekly, Terry and I like to eat out. We have our favorite places around town, but one of the top three includes Hacienda Vieja. 

As the name would imply, this is a Mexican restaurant, serving up some of the favorites you would find in a restaurant that serves Mexican entrees. 

Terry's favorite is the steak fajita. The meal is placed on the table with the sizzling hot cast iron skillet sending waves of steam wafting upward. You can hear the plate sizzle as it is set down by the waiter and even a few minutes into the meal. 

The steak fajita is also served with a separate plate filled with rice, beans with cheese, guacamole, tomatoes, lettuce and some sour cream. The portions are large in this restaurant making it one of the better choices in town. Out of all the eateries in Roseburg, I believe there are two Mexican style places in town. Hacienda Vieja is our favorite, by far. 

My favorite choice at this restaurant is the chili relleno and chalupa combination plate, served with the common refried beans and Spanish rice. As they set the plate down in front of me, I thought back to the last time we had eaten here. I do not recall the plate being this large! My meal didn't steam or sizzle, but it sure tasted great!

After the boiling hot dinner Terry ordered had cooled a bit, he was able to tackle most of it. He was very full when done and could definitely eat nothing else. We left most of the complimentary chips and salsa. 

I had a couple of bites of the chili relleno and of the chalupa. The beans and rice were filling though and that was enough for me. I put mine in a box to take home for snacking later. Compliments to Hacienda Vieja for always serving it up nice and hot, with huge portions, and always tastes the same. Some restaurants depend on the cooks on shift that night, but these hosts definitely serve it up the same way every time, ensuring the customers return. Great food. Nice, friendly wait staff. Awesome atmosphere. We will definitely be back!
