Horseback On Bandon Beach in Oregon
HORSEBACK ON THE BEACH

What are these magnificent animals
my girlfriend Vicki and I have come to ride
on the beach in Bandon, Oregon?
A place so beautiful that movies
have been made here.
My horse Sabrina is a beautiful white,
tan, and brown 10 year old. Vicki’s, Texas,
is a tan 22 year old with a dab of white.
Both are quarter horse and draft horse
crosses.
Stepping up stairs to mount our horses,
easier due to our old and broken bodies,
we climb aboard and take the reins. We
are then treated to a brief riding lecture.
So far, so good.
Our guide leads us and three
other couples along a narrow trail
to the beach on our mounts. Climbing
down a short sandy path,
we reach the beach.
As we gaze at the stunning scene
before us, we see large rocks in the water
playing amidst the frothy whitecaps.
The sky is busy with lazy clouds
blowing slowly through the blue.
The largest rock formation rises
out of the water like a citadel built
by a long-forgotten race of elves.
The smaller formations appear
as sentinels guarding the castle.
We pause to take photos. One of our
guides, Cassie, dismounts and takes
photos of Vicki and me using my
smartphone while we hold hands.
She then takes a few of the formations.
All in all, a very relaxing ride into scenery
which I’m sure graces the photo albums
of the thousands of tourists who visit.
Vicki and I will always treasure memories
of our horseback ride on the beach.
Seeing this makes my heart happy!
