Weekend Waddles and Chicken Fingers

Oh, my gosh! These weekends we have been spending together are awesome! I love going out and seeing things, finding activities to do, and most of all, spending time laughing together with Terry.

Now this is a fairly ordinary weekend that includes trips to various stores and eateries. This weekend started last night with a trip to Abby's Legendary Pizza.

Abby's can be found in Eugene as well as Roseburg, so I am familiar with their menu. I love Abby's. They have great pizza, but also fried chicken, salad, bread sticks and fried potato slices. So good! You could literally fry up a stick of butter and it would be a heart stopping goodness that you would never forget. But Abby's does know how to fry up bird pieces and slather a slice of potato with a slightly crunchy outer coating before throwing them into a bubbling hot oil. They are all fried to perfection. Great with ranch too.

We started the night out wanting a Greek restaurant Terry had mentioned a few days ago. I thought Greek dining would be nice to try since I had never eaten Greek cuisine. Terry shot me a quick text from work and mentioned it as a dinner choice. I was excited to try it. The Greek restaurant was found immediately online. Thinking I would go to the website to peruse the menu option, I was greeted with a large "Goodbye Roseburg" written across the screen. It seems they had moved to the UAE and one other out of the country location. So, Abby's it is.

Terry ordered a pepperoni with olives, onions, and mushrooms and we chowed down! Good pizza and of course we shared some laughter throughout the meal. By the looks of our blog, it would appear to some that all we do is eat. Although my ass would say otherwise, that's not true. We just enjoy our time out and our time together and we are filling a blog with posts. To do so includes some of the eateries that we tend to frequent and some of the new ones we want to try. That is unless they have moved to the UAE. I love to try new things but traveling that far is out of the question to enable us to write a blog post. We will stick to the things we have around us.

After devouring this beautiful pie, Terry and I headed home to watch another episode of The Mentalist. The Mentalist is a show that aired first on September 23, 2008, and stars Simon Baker and Robin Tunney. It's a mystery, crime show that can be funny as well as interesting. We've been balancing our time between The Mentalist and Medium, starring Patricia Arquette and Jake Weber. Both hold our attention and are fun to watch. I also have an addiction for the reruns of Castle, another crime/mystery show. Between the two that Terry and I watch and the show I watch when I'm able, we are definitely into the murder mysteries.

Saturday morning came without much fanfare. We took the dog out for his morning constitutional. Terry grabbed his camping chair and headed outside to smoke his cigars. I snuggled up on the bed to watch a bit of Castle before gathering myself for the day.

When Terry was done, we decided to go to a sewing and craft store nearby called Joann Fabric and Craft Store. We strolled up and down the aisles in search of nothing really. But now I know where to go get yarn in Roseburg. I also fell in love with many choices in jewelry making items. This is going to be my go-to store when I need something for my crafts.

After visiting the fabric and craft shop, Terry told me about a store he wanted to go to called While Away Books. It's a quaint little bookstore filled with, of course, books. Duh. For such a small store, it was really packed full of books. I was impressed with the number of books and the genres they offer. It was amazing.

We checked out a couple of chairs while in the bookstore too. While Away Books had so many books to choose from.

With shelving filled, many books found a spot on the floor.

If you love to read, While Away Books is the place to go to find most anything you could ask for.

The bookstore was amazing, but neither Terry nor I were in search of any books at the moment. He reminded me of the duck pond near the Fred Meyer store up the road. We decided to head out there since it was such a beautiful sunny day in Roseburg today. So off we went.

We pulled into the parking lot and the first thing I saw was this common yet beautiful male mallard duck sitting in the grasses beside the pond. I love mallards. They are so colorful around the head and neck area. Hey, I am from Eugene, and I do love me some ducks!

This fat boy made me laugh. He is eating a pumpkin and the seeds that someone threw out to them. His eagerness to gorge himself was hilarious.

Geese tend to be a bit bossy, and this guy really thought he was king of the roost! He was all up in everyone's business. If another male went after a bite to eat, this guy chased him away. The females were not paying attention, however he thought they were all over him. He strutted, he tried to throw his chest out and impress, but to no avail. At the end of the day, he stood alone, without a partner at his side. Poor goose. The moral of the story is to not chase friends off to impress women or you'll be a standalone kind of guy when you need friends the most.

This mallard grew tired of the nasty tempered goose, so he took his ball and waddled home.

This mallard loved his pumpkin so much that he stayed out of the drama and ate until he couldn't eat any more.
Terry took these three photos (above).

Once we viewed the ducks for a while, we chose to go eat some dinner. With pizza last night, we wanted something a bit more interesting, nutritional, and good for us overall. Red Robin it is!

Yeah, right. Us? Good for us? Healthy? Maybe not so much on weekends. Red Robin serves up mini-onion ring towers for starters! Great way to start off the 80 more pounds to the butt. But this was just the beginning!

Red Robin is always busy. The waiting game is a must.

Nothing says "America" better than Lady Liberty hoisting a fat, juicy, heart attack waiting to happen burger for all to see. Welcome to America where ingesting fattening burger grease with a basket of fries is a must! Terry and I decided we are true Americans and must get on with the patriotic meal. My dietician would be proud!

And what better way to start this meal off than the fried onion ring tower? Bring it on!

Once we devoured the onion rings with BBQ sauce and the ranch dressing thrown on the side, we went for the real meal. Mine? Steak fries and chicken fingers. Yes! And bring on more ranch!

Terry's choice for tonight was fish and chips with malt vinegar poured all over. Malt vinegar with the nasty odor of feet. Dirty feet. Yum. Eat up sweet man!

And yes, not one green thing on our plates. Very sad but true. Alas sweet dietician, I am trying but the human in me gives in without much of a fight.

Our Saturday wasn't over yet. Why not make us really full and fat? Let's add a trip to the video store, along with some frozen yogurt to the mix!

I opened the spigot to the blackberry frozen yogurt tub and let it flow! Adding some chopped pecans was the final touch. Only 1700 calories and God knows how much sugar. I'm not normally a calorie or sugar counter, but I am diabetic. I try to watch what I consume, but this was just amazing! I only had about 1/4 the cup filled (sounds like a good excuse to cover myself in case I go into a coma).

Mm. Terry's choice was even better. He let his freak flag fly and filled his cup with chocolate yogurt on the bottom, topped with the salted caramel yogurt to extend beyond the top of the cup. Yum. It looked so good! Terry is also diabetic, so the choice was not the right choice maybe, but we both enjoyed it immensely. We typically eat Carb Smart ice cream, which is low on calories, carbs, and sugar. However, we took the option to go a little wild this weekend.

The local Game Stop store in Roseburg is connected to a place called Level Up Frozen Yogurt. I love frozen yogurt, but as with most foods, it has far too much sugar in it. Like I said, we don't do this often, but this is the first time we have visited this store since we met. You've got to let go once in a while though, right?

Coming home we were both pretty quiet. The food we had consumed was taking control. The eyes were wanting to close, my mind was numb. We took the dog out for his walk and took up our usual positions. Terry outside smoking his last couple cigars of the day, me sitting by the computer writing this post and soon to be watching Castle. Our day will end as we sit together and watch a murder mystery or a movie. I love our life.
