Lilies & Screaming Hairy Armadillos
The monthly anniversary date of the 17th rolled around again, bringing with it a smiling hubby with an arm full of maroon-colored lilies. Gorgeous choice my loving husband brought home. The best part is that after they wilt away, I can plant the bulbs to enjoy them again.
Thank you, once again sweet hubby of mine.

We took a trip to Wildlife Safari again this Sunday (April 19, 2026). It has been a while since we ventured into the safari lands to see some of our favorite animals. I read that there were babies born in the park and the sanctuary had acquired foxes and other new creatures. It was time to pack our animal loving butts into the car and make the trip to Winston, about seven or eight miles away.
I like to release the photos without much chat in between so the drive through this amazing park can be enjoyed.
Sorry to interrupt your scrolling, but I have to say it ... it's definitely not hump day. This camel is letting you know it's the butt end of the week. (insert groans and moans here).
Eland
The newest zebra baby.
My daughter and I first met Naughty Bird several years ago. A staff member informed us the reason he was in a run all on his own is due to the 'tude the dude had. He loves to pick on cars and people. Not a good thing when being in a drive-thru animal park where cars and people are a thing. They chose to keep him, so they gave him plenty of room to roam. The ostrich seems to glare at us each time we make an attempt to pull up to snap photos. This one we captured from further away but I'm sure he still had his eyes focused on us driving toward him.
Geese were everywhere!
The guanaco is my spirit animal with their laid back, "I don't give two sh*ts" attitude, and that surfer dude look they seem to always have on their face. Love them. Surf's up, dude.
Laid back enough to crash the bison party happening behind him.
Meet Jeff "Guan" Spicoli.
Bison nap time.
Gorgeous American elk bucks growing in their new antlers.
The male turkeys are strutting their stuff everywhere thinking they're all big and bad.
Sorry, boys. It looks like the females of your species are ignoring you.
Another rhino hanging out in the pen.
One of the giraffes strutting up the path. He's on a mission. A mission from Dog (Blues Brothers) {insert big groan here}.
Terry took this photo from the passenger side of the car. I don't know, but I would say the guy needs a good shave.
This is a better view from this angle. The hippo has his head turned to the side. One eye and the whiskers are showing.
In the neighboring pond, this hippo is enjoying a mud bath too. This guy looks like a large rock.
Peek-a-boo little fallow deer.
A beautiful black crowned crane snoops through the grass on the lookout for anything edible.
It's getting close to feeding time. These fallow deer are searching for snacks the visitors to the park might have dropped or thrown for them.
The boys are still prancing.
Mama cheetah is waiting for her three cubs to come home after being placed in a separate pen for the day.
So, let's see what the babies are up to ...
You kids better be good!
Terry and I went inside the village to see some of the new babies, and oh, my Dog! I want to take one home! Sorry about the glare on the glass. We tried getting photos without the glare but it's impossible in this area.
The cotton top tamarins have two new babies! They are so adorable, as you can see here. I heard about four or five people claim they wanted one after I said it to Terry. So cuddly and cute. Congratulations to mom and dad! Good job!
That baby was bouncing all over the place but stopped for a second to eat. Then they were back to tear their home up again!
I had to come to see the Screaming Hairy Armadillo most of all. What a name and what a creature. Cute, yet odd looking. Terry and I decided it looks like a potato bug. But I looked up why they call it a "screaming" armadillo and wow. Just wow.
Cute, but loud, eh? Wow. We didn't hear the one in the park, but I had to look up such an odd name once I returned home. Not to sound redundant, but wow. I could not imagine that sound in my home. From the research I did, they only "scream" when they feel danger. The one in the video was picked up, so that meant trouble, and the screaming began.
After hearing the video, you can understand where the term "screaming" came from. When looking at the pictures Terry shot, the name of the animal, an armadillo, makes perfect sense. Hairy? Oh, yeah. This little guy is hairy, in a bald sort of way. His hair growth is sparse, at best. He looks like an old man trying to accomplish a good-looking combover. I would say that the armadillo accomplished the combover better than most humans. Just throwing that out there.
Most of all, I love those ears. The eyes are adorable as well.
Just so stinkin' cute. Interesting too. I've never heard of this species. The Screaming Hairy Armadillo is native to parts of South America. Overlapping scales on the animal are called scutes. These cuties are nocturnal during the summer and diurnal (activities are done in the day hours) during the winter.
They have an amazing sense of smell and of hearing, which assists them in finding food. Water is a thing of the past with these critters. They do drink but rely on very little water. They find their intake of fluids in the moisture inside their food.
Then, there are the cuddly guys known as marmosets. Another adorable animal I would love to have.
I took this photo looking straight down on the African spurred tortoise in an attempt to catch the "armor" it has on the legs and head. This helps protect the big guy but also plays a large part in digging.
A larger tortoise spent his time grazing in the grass.
Ending this blog post with a beautiful elephant enjoying his dirt bath. It was another great day in the Wildlife Safari. My best friend, my love, and my heart at my side makes it perfect. Afterward, we always go to our restaurant, Arby's, where Terry loves to pass my lunch on to other women. Yes. Back off ladies. He's mine. Thank you, friends, for reading the blog. We love our lives as we hope you enjoy reading about it and we do love taking the time out to journal events as they happen. Thank you for reading A Psychic and a Poet Walk into a Bar.
