Weekend Flus and Work Week Blues
Ugh. That's all that comes to mind as of now. Sunday afternoon. Lazy, sunny, hot. Relaxing. Terry, his daughter Mallory, and me were supposed to have a movie marathon today, completing the viewing of an old but great series in Indiana Jones. Mallory texted us this morning and she is sick. My immediate thoughts went to a few days ago when I was sick. Must be something going around. Yuck. Between the heat and not feeling well, it's a miserable existence. I wish her a speedy recovery!
I also found out my granddaughter, Jessee was sick. She went in to get a tattoo and the following day she was sick with aches and pains shooting through every nerve in her body. Being under the impression she had Covid-19 again, she checked into it. It was not a usual flu, but something called a "tattoo flu." I guess you can get it once in a great while if you get tattoos. It has nothing to do with the tattoo artist or the place they operate being dirty. It has everything to do with your immune system being weakened. In my granddaughter's case, she is nursing her daughter still, so all of her body systems are working hard to provide that to her daughter. But she felt nursing brought on the flu-like symptoms because of that. It only lasts about a day, maybe two, and that's it. Her flu lasted for the one day and she was back up and moving the following day. Be aware that this can happen if you are into getting tattoos!
While the movie marathon is postponed, the idea of having a nice, quiet Sunday afternoon is awesome. Work comes to mind. I can choose to work, or the other options are to relax outside with Terry or to lay around all day and do nothing, as we have done all weekend. Not complaining. The four days Terry has off each week now makes life better. I get him home more often and that's a good thing. So, what kind of trouble do 60-year-olds get into when there is nothing else to do? We go shopping.
I wanted a few shells for our bathroom theme of "beach". I love the colors in the bathroom. As soon as we moved in, I thought of the ocean or beach as the way I wanted to decorate that room. I have added a puffer fish that was purchased during our honeymoon, I still have a pelican with a French fry sign to hang, and today I brought home a bag of seashells to add more to the design. I do have another sign in there already and a rope that spells out the word "beach". I'm on the search for a couple of old bottles that you might find on the coast. The small, antique looking ones that are great to pour sand in.
This is the first sign I hung in the bathroom. It fit the bathroom theme so well. I hate the way we have to hang things though. Our landlord does not want any holes in the walls, which I completely love and respect about him as a landlord. The house is an older home but in great shape. It's kept in great shape because of his desires to not do things such as poke holes in the walls. Terry and I purchased some of the hangers you see holding this lightweight sign, but we are not happy with them. The hanger stands out on top of things, and we have had one picture fall off the kitchen wall because they just aren't study enough to hold anything that has any weight to it. We have just purchased the 3M hanging systems that does not use anything that damages walls. It's the Command series. We'll see. It seems as though you have to go through quite a process to hang items using them and I have not designated an hour of my time yet to figure out how to use them by watching the videos.
The new shells were strewn about the shelving area and the windowsill to add a bit more natural color. I love anything that is associated with the sea.
Adding the puffer fish we purchased while at the coast on our honeymoon really brought it together in a sort of comical way. I love the look of his (or her) face.
I love the colors on the shells we purchased today. It adds the warmth of browns and tans and juxtaposed the blue, it definitely reminds me of the ocean.
Adding a few candles of the same color as the bathroom, it maintains the theme while bringing scent to the mix.
A long "shelf" stands above the shower/bathtub wall. Bottles filled with sand, or the glass net weights would be perfect here. This is the next project I want to take on. Everything in due time. I will remain on the search for more as time goes on. I do think I will be creating 8 X 10 photos from some of our beach pictures, maybe even the horseback ride on the beach when we first met and hang those in there as well.
Maybe something like this or even the one where Terry and I are holding hands on horseback while on the beach.
Whatever photo I choose, I would love to add a picture of the beach, adding the colors of sand and ocean.
After our dinner of chili dogs, we took our usual seats on the couch. Out came the movies. Terry had never seen Bridget Jones' Diary before. That was our first choice. I love Bridget Jones. She is not some perfect little blonde with no issues in life besides finding a man. Bridget has her flaws and that's what makes the movie in my opinion. She gains weight. Smoking is difficult to stop during the hard times in her life. Public speaking is definitely not her thing. She is an imperfect person who is loved just the way she is. That's what made the series for me.
I had never seen a film called The Commitments. Terry told me he loved the film and so that was our second choice. Even while my butt was falling asleep through two films as it typically does through our movie marathons, it was worth watching. The Commitments is about a group of people brought together by the love of soul and the idea of being in a band. Just when the band begins to rein in success, the fights begin. Good movie, worth watching.
That was our fantastically boring weekend. I love these weekends along with the travels and adventures we do take. Spending time together is a good thing, no matter what you do or where you are. Now comes the 4th of July, 🎊🎉even though that is something I can typically do without, this year Terry and I are going to attend a car show, car races, and of course, a fireworks display. This is our first 4th together. I can't wait to make some more memories! Our excursion will be posted in the blog, of course, including photos of some gorgeous cars and fireworks galore.
Have a great week everyone! Wishing you all well. Stay safe and be kind to yourself and others.
