Quacking Up

Today is Sunday, November 19, 2023. Rainy, but the sun is making an attempt to light up the day. Our Saturday went well. Sweet man had his hair cut and beard trimmed yesterday and is looking good! He cleans up nicely and I love that in a man. He is in preparation of turkey day and seeing the family on a very special occasion.

One, seeing the family on a holiday is always filled with love and blessings. Two, it is the one year anniversary date of the day my Terry proposed to me. I said yes, and of course, some tears flowed. The men were handed tissues and the feast began. 😉😁😏😜

Thanksgiving now has two meanings for Terry and I. We are going to don our wifey and hubby shirts to celebrate the day, along with loving the idea we are with our family again to celebrate the holiday. Terry and I are excited about the day, as is the rest of our family members. It's always so much fun to gather and share laughter. My family is very important to me and I am blessed to be with someone who appreciates that sentiment.

So, yesterday was the Oregon Ducks game. The team traveled to Tempe, Arizona, where they met up with the Arizona State Sun Devils. Always a good time. Final score of the game was 49 to 13, Oregon. Plays were awesome and Arizona State didn't go down without an amazing fight. They put their all into the game and played with intention and heart. The struggle was real. Fun game to watch, although I'm not so sure if I were a Sun Devil that thought would hold true.

That was our excitement for the day. I didn't even clean house yesterday and boy, today I'm paying for that. I was loving up on Togo while watching the game, so there is dog hair all over everything in the living room. We track in small leaves from the trees outside and they are all over the house. Of course, there is the typical cat litter outside the litter box, dust, and the messes we make as humans. It's all good though. My Sunday is going to be spent cleaning. It's worth it to have that one day off. One day free of work of any kind. Love it.

Went out to start the Xterra the other day and the battery has finally failed. We could tell it was coming, as the car would struggle before starting lately. Our metal baby was groaning, grunting, and moaning when asked to work. She's a good girl and usually fires right up, but that battery is old. It's time. Today is the day we are going to jump start it and run down to the car parts store. She needs surgery to heal. We do still have the Sportage, which is only a few months old. The Kia does fire up when needed, although that one is silent in the act. So quiet that I can never tell the car has started except for the green "ready" light on the dash. Crazy stuff.

My sweet husband's right thumb has been painful due to an injury that occurred as Togo pulled him on a walk. That pain has extended into a few weeks now. The doctor saw him shortly after the pain began and he was told to wear a splint, which he has faithfully done. But several weeks have passed, without any sort of improvement. We drove to the urgent care facility at the Roseburg VA and saw another doctor.

Now, this condition does have a name, but for the life of me I cannot spit it out. The term for his thumb boo-boo is about a mile long or at least several words. I think there is a Q in there somewhere. Yes, it's one of those terms that makes you want to ask Vanna White and Pat Sajak if you can buy a vowel. "Painful thumb" or "thumb boo-boo" works for me. He was referred to a specialist and that's where we left it. Now it will probably take several weeks to get in to see the orthopedic specialist. Meanwhile, it hurts.

It seems as though our entire medical system in this country has fallen apart since COVID hit. Shortage of doctors, nurses, and medical professionals and when you do find one, it takes a few weeks or months in some cases to get in to see him or her.

My latest medical appointments have been taken care of by seeing kids who are younger than my children. None of them are actual physicians, but rather physician assistants or bearing other titles that mean they have not completed medical school yet. Bless their hearts, they try, and some can actually prescribe stuff when needed, but it all just seems so distorted and out of whack. I lay my trust in an actual physician, although I know the younger folks moving into the medical field are probably freshly educated in new ways to cure ailments. Used to be when you had something wrong or were sick, you simply went in to see your doctor and all was right with the world. So odd. All these changes.

So our weekend continues, peacefully, lovingly. Full of hope for a great week to come. I do love the holidays. Today we are cleaning, relaxing and enjoying our final hours before another work week begins (add dramatic music here). I make it sound as though we are having some extreme, dramatic end. I simply mean it does indicate that all of us who are still working have to return tomorrow. Enough bitching though, as this upcoming week is going to be three days long for both of us. I will have an extra two days off as well. Nice.

I'm closing out this week by saying we hope all of you feel blessed, happy, and loved. If you don't feel that way, understand that you are. There are people who do love and care about you in this world. Our lives and our happiness are dependent on us. We make it what it is. We create the reality that is our life. If you have the choice to sit out or dance, we do hope you dance. Make life what you want it to be.
