This Too Shall Pass

Two days ago Mallory and I were on a mission. We wanted to locate a place that would take the new cat family we had living on the front porch. Ending their suffering of being on the streets was our goal, our mission, our passion.
This began with a stray Terry named Sasha. She is a gorgeous, sleek blue-gray colored baby with striking yellow eyes. I went out to walk the dog one morning and she was there.
Afraid at first, she soon became tame with a couple of feedings. Every time I walked out the front door, she was there, winding her way around my legs. She soon became best of friends with Terry and I. Sitting at the table on the patio, she would jump into our laps, one at a time, and garner as many pats as possible. If we stopped petting, she pushed against us while emitting loud calls to continue.
Soon all of us fell in love with this little girl. She was perfect. Through the love we have for her, we knew we needed to find her a forever inside home. She deserved that.
We made an attempt to get her into a vet to be spayed but to no avail. The vet and other sources were many months out on appointment dates, leaving us frustrated. By then she could be pregnant.
And sure enough, pregnant she was. On the 25th of March, Sasha had her five babies. Now what?
Mallory called a shelter around the area. They could take her and the babies. She would stay with the babies until they were weaned, then they would fix our gorgeous baby and turn her loose into the neighborhood she came from. To show that she was fixed, they would clip a portion of her ear.
I understand the point behind the clipping is that they can tell she has been spayed. Kit cat has a clipped ear, but it is too far down on the ear. Terry could have shown Kit in cat shows had it not been for that ear clipping.
I was crying when the conversation between Mallory and the woman was taking place. I began to say no to it all. It was not going to happen. No way are they going to fix her and release her back onto the streets. She deserves a loving home too. I was having a difficult time driving while tears welled up in my eyes.
Mallory got off the phone and immediately burst into tears as well. We were both upset at the idea of having poor Sasha go through all of that, only to end up back on the streets. Not fair and not okay. I suggested we call another place I read about around the area, New Beginnings SPCA.
New Beginnings is a no-kill organization that helps strays find homes. They have been helping animals since 1991. Without a brick and mortar shelter yet, they operate out of various foster homes in the community and take in as many strays as they can.
We called them and found out they could take her and her babies, plus find a forever home for all. It made my day.
Yesterday, Saturday, March 29, we met up with the adoption team hosting an event at the local Petco. From there, we released the entire family of babies into their hands. Our beautiful Sasha will soon have a home for her and her babies.
Mallory received a call from New Beginnings later that evening, letting us know that the babies are in a foster home and are settling in nicely. Sasha is being her sweet self and all is going well. Tears of joy followed that report. I am so grateful for her new temporary home. Terry wants to volunteer and to donate a bag of cat food every time we purchase one for our other two cats.
I went to bed thanking God for New Beginnings and the volunteers that do what they do, all of the foster parents, and the entire idea behind what they do and why they do it. I'm now waiting for photos to appear on their website and/or Facebook page. They are in desperate need of food, dishes, blankets, bottles for kittens, and money. Beds are also a great contribution. It is mostly cat items they are in need of. If anyone could or would donate to this beautiful organization, please do! Follow the website or Facebook page links to learn more.

We gained a few photos during the week along the way.
The kittens were milk drunk at this point.
