Disgruntled Eggs

Egg=selent beginning to an egg-selent weekend. It's Wednesday (2.25.26) and the weekend as Terry and I know it is already in motion. Terry is starting to feel a bit of discomfort from his surgically fixed knee due to the operation he had and also having to keep his leg straight constantly. He has had to lie in bed to give him a break from sitting all the time.

Since his leg is straight, he can still walk. The crutches have been placed in a corner and off he goes on foot. His doctor stated he could put weight on the leg but had to keep that knee perfectly straight. He has been doing well at that.

Our fur babies are all doing well. We are experiencing some oddness from Togo, our Siberian husky, however. He tends to be overly dramatic at night. Imagine that being a husky and all. With the reasoning that huskies are super dramatic, it still does not explain all of the poutiness and childlike behavior this pup has been showing us lately.

Last Wednesday, Terry's daughter Mallory came over to go to the hospital with us for her dad's surgery. While this was good, she came early, spending a small amount of time with Togo. Now, Togo believes anyone who comes over comes to see him and nobody else. They aren't allowed to pet the cats or spend time chatting with us. All attention needs to be paid to him. He is Senor Swanky Pants after all.

We spent a bit of time in the house before leaving for the surgical time scheduled. As we left, the three of us were immediately focused on getting Terry into the car, without any accidents getting him into the seat. We made it, fortunately, but we didn't consider Togo and his feelings.

Far be it for me to complain about our gorgeous, very emotional canine. I'm not complaining but he left me with a scare in the evening when we returned. After surgery, Mallory and I got Terry settled. I was running around attempting to make sure all was well for him, so Mallory took Mr. Swanky Pants out on his walk for me. Bless her heart.

He went to the bathroom and came back for the house. Once inside, up on the couch he went, sprawling out to ensure he would get a good belly rub before Mallory left or we went to bed. His expectations were there because our nightly schedule involves all of this.

Mallory had to rush home before it grew too dark. She has a difficult time driving at night, as do I, so it's understandable. After Mallory left in a hurry, it had Togo feeling out of the loop. Terry and I were ready to sit and watch our series, The Lincoln Lawyer.

Before watching the show, we moved Togo into the bedroom where he has his dinner and can stretch out on our bed. I took a break during our show to use the bathroom when I came upon a pup who did not look normal. Togo was drooping and refused to get on the bed with me as I had suggested to perk him up. This is completely strange for him.

The more I spoke to him, the worse he got. He turned and stared into my closet, not wanting to look at me. I was upset. I thought my baby boy had something wrong with him. Spending time with him didn't seem to make it any better. The gorgeous boys laid on the floor, barely lifting his head, and not looking at me. Nothing. Of course, my mind went to the worst-case scenario, which was we had to take him into the vet.

Terry came into the room, stating he had to go to the bathroom too. As he came back out, I asked him to spend a few moments with his pup. I explained what was happening with him and let Terry know that he really needed his daddy at this time. Terry spent some time with Togo, and upon his return to the living room, he informed me he was worried too.

We talked about our concerns and chose to bring Togo out into the living room with us for a while. Our decision was formed around the idea that we may be able to cheer him up a little to ensure he would feel a bit better anyway. He was really not well and our pampering him could not hurt.

Our emotionally crippled puppy eventually perked up after spending time with his mom and dad on the couch. It hit me that we had run out the door for surgery that morning, especially after Mallory had come over, teasing him with her appearance. We were gone all day, giving him more time in solitary confinement.

We spoiled him for a while, then headed to bed with the emotional basket case in tow. He was perfectly fine from then on out. Thank goodness he was too because I have never seen him droop like that before. He acted like something was seriously wrong.

I messaged Mallory and informed her that she was in trouble too. She doesn't get out of it if we don't. Togo was one angry, confused, spoiled rotten baby. She is partially to blame. We laughed at the end of our messaging over the silliness of our baby boy, along with the idea that he was so emotionally distraught over our not staying home all day to dote on him. Poor guy.

I know Togo was with a family for five years. From his puppy years through the age of five he was with his last family, including children and another dog, plus a cat or two. The family had to move and could not take Togo with them. We have no idea if the other animals got to remain in the household or not, but Togo had to go through a phase of being abandoned. This, I believe, is what gave him his fear of being left again. We do understand this and make a strong attempt to love him as much as we can on a daily basis. But alas, life does tend to get in the way at times.

We love our precious Togo and would never surrender him. If we ever have to move and cannot find a place for him, I guess we had better get used to camping because a tent and the forest would become our new home. He is family and family is never left behind.

Siberian huskies are also known to be very dramatic and emotional when they do not get their way. It's like having a toddler on steroids. If you ever plan on getting one, make sure you realize you will be living in six feet of hair in your home, even after vacuuming. You will never see your furniture again due to the covers you need to apply on a daily basis. Even while Togo is hand signal trained, he looks at us as though he really doesn't see the need or the point in going through with the command. He does eventually do it, but not without indifference.

The emotions? You need to learn them quickly, so you do not have your fluffy pup in the vet each time they are pouting. He almost won this time around although, after careful watch, I figured out that he was simply pouting worse than I had seen him do it before. Whew! Good thing we thought it through and saved ourselves an expensive vet bill for absolutely nothing. It was simply a matter of him believing his pet parents are abusive when they don't sit in the house all day to pamper him. I mean, jeez. What is wrong with us?

Today is going to be a very busy day. I'm working today and in between delivery calls I will have to clean my disgusting house. Togo fur is everywhere; Litter box needs cleaning. Dishes from last night need washing. And oh! The vacuuming that needs to take place today! We have our family coming tomorrow, or at least some of our family. Mallory and Hayden are coming over. Dawn, Jessee, possibly Kylee, and Zyrah and Novalee too. Loving the thought of it all! Terry is quite excited about seeing family too.

All of them are coming to see Terry and I, and to make sure he is doing well. I love when they are able to drive here to see us. I just wish Marina and Brandy could also join them, but their schedules are far too busy. That's okay. We can see them when we travel there.

At least the rain has stopped for today and possibly tomorrow too. That means I can run more deliveries without slipping and sliding in mud, either on foot or in the car. My white car is covered in mud right now and needs a good wash. I'm simply waiting for the rain to take a break for a while so that the wash is not a ridiculous plan, but rather a good investment of time.

Ah, memories of the good old days when my car was actually clean. And white. And shiny.

As I've said before, delivery work is actually fun at times. The beautiful scenery, points of interest you see along the way, and of course, the wildlife and animals.

The bridge in Myrle Creek over the South Umpqua River. One of my favorite views when driving south. I had a trip to Canyonville yesterday that was not too bad. Gave me a chance to step out of the car at the bridge in Myrle Creek to take a break.

I have photographed this "cave" before but not so close to be able to see what the entrance looks like. I really don't think it's a cave now that I see it closer. It looks like a large black rock lies at the entrance. That shot my mental image of wanting to walk into this cave at some point all to hell. Caves are interesting to me. I do love the idea of being inside a large rock formation. I know. It's weird. I'm weird. But that's okay. Weird people make this planet rock (pun intended).

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Kit has decided that watching the old guy eat his food is a good hobby. Why? Because whatever the 16-year-old boy can't eat, Kit will. He patiently (and sometimes impatiently) awaits Jasper's walk away from the bowl so he can make his kitty moves to claim it as his.

Meanwhile, the party in the living room is on fire.

I was fortunate enough to get this beautiful arrangement for delivery today. Absolutely gorgeous, and oh! The scent of all of these lovely flowers in my car was amazing. Perfect way to start the day!

My day started out well, I can say. Having only accomplished two deliveries, my husband and I chose for me to take the rest of the day off so I could clean and do what I wanted to do. Well, maybe not what I wanted to do, but yeah ...

I did have a pretty good run on those two deliveries though. First, I headed north to Oakland, Oregon, then traveled south to the southern side of Myrtle Creek. Craziness today!

I love the little town of Oakland. It has a population of, believe it or not, about 934 residents. Imagine that. What would you do in such a tiny burg? I drove through downtown to see what it had to offer.

Right next to a nice big park, there were shops and offices to check out. A small tavern, a tea and coffee shop that also offered wine, a couple of antique stores, and other storefronts that provided a few other offerings. All in all, the quaint town of Oakland, Oregon blends downtown with farmland and acres of crops. Beautiful place to be, I'm sure. Let's take a look at "downtown."

I wanted to look at the buildings further away for a moment to admire their architecture.

I'm no expert nor am I an architect, but these buildings seem to hold a lot of the original design, with some modern renovations blended in when repairs were needed. Not a thing wrong with that, and I do thank people for keeping the original appearance as much as they can during these remodeling ventures.

The Oakland Trader seemed to be a large metal shed or barn originally, and then another layer was added in certain deteriorating spots. It also seems to have been distressed after adding the new metal to keep the historical appearance. The door and windows appear to be the originals. Of course, like I said above, I'm no expert. Just going by my eyes and gut on what may have happened. Adore this town though!

The owners selected an antique store as their sales choice, and a great choice it is. It all fit the building or the building fit it. Either way, it was cute.

There were a couple of buildings that were home to several chimneys or what looked like chimneys anyway. Not sure why or if that's what they really are but it sure looked like it. If anyone happens to know what is going on here, please, leave a comment!

I did some research on the Oakland 1905 Ice House and found this:

What little town in a time machine takes you back to the late 1800s without having a hardware store?

I don't drink but found this to be very interesting. It used to be a bank and now is host to gatherings and events for the town.

Maybe these buildings with multiple chimneys were strictly designed for appearance or maybe it is an old boarding house back in the day?

Antique store and the "coldest beer in town" right next door. Now, how could you possibly go wrong?

And last, but not least, is the Triple Oak Coffee & Tea house that offers glasses of wine as well.

That was it. That was my travel around downtown Oakland. Not a large town by any means, but a sleepy bedroom town more than anything. I love the look and feel of the place, although I have yet to speak to many residents to know the insider news on how nice this burg is to live in.

This was our week. Terry is healing nicely. He is walking around without crutches and is scaring the hell out of me actually. He is a strong man, one who doesn't let things stop him or put him in a chair. He likes to be on the move and keep his life running smoothly.

As I say this, I will state that this is it for this post. We wish you all well and send everyone light, love, and abundance. Take care of yourselves and thank you so much for reading the blog. We appreciate each and every one of you.

Signing off,
Terry & Vicki Macrae
