Drunken Mice and Purple Ducks

Two Shy Brewery partners up with Saving Grace Adoption Center each month to bring attention to the beautiful animals that need forever homes. Every month visitors to the brewery rock their dogs in various clothing choices and come to the brewery to celebrate dogs and cats in general.

Terry and I appeared at the brewery last night to enjoy yet another visit to the charity affair. Every first Tuesday of the month the brewery hosts the event for the non-profit organization. Dogs are brought out on leash to mingle with the crowd, including other dogs party goers bring on leashes.

We had dinner, provided by the food truck from Relished Dog. Our food was good for being a couple of hot dogs. Impressive dishes made with hot dogs and other ingredients to make your mouth water. I had a hot dog with chili flavored beans, cheese, lettuce, bacon and barbecue sauce topping off the large portion of food. Terry got his dog slathered in sauerkraut and onions. He said it was wonderful.

Upon arrival, we walked inside the brewery to see what was happening. Music was being played over the speakers, including those hung on the outer patio walls. It was good music, good food, and great puppies! I had a chance to pet the golden doodle brought by a woman visiting the brewery. One of the women from Amazing Grace brought out a cute shepherd mix pooch and wow! Was he ever adorable! The dogs are always our favorite part of the event.

But all of this can be read about in our other blog post, Shy Brew and Saving Grace. This post is about the raffle offered through Saving Grace. Last night, right after writing the post about the event, I received a call informing me that I had won the raffle. Terry had signed us both up and paid for two tickets. We were excited to hear that we had won! The basket didn't come to us alone. It brought friends.

We received two bottles of Irish ale, along with a Two Shy Brewery t-shirt. I went to pick up the basket for us since Terry had to work and the woman handed me the two bottles of the ale, plus the t-shirt, and then she tells me I also have a basket to carry out to the car. She helped with this task as I couldn't carry it all.

I was surprised when I picked up the basket and found we had been given a couple of bottles of this Irish ale, along with the black t-shirt.

Congratulations to Two Shy Brewery for their 10-year anniversary and thank you for partnering with Saving Grace, Roseburg's adoption center. There are far too many animals that need forever homes. Young, old, doesn't matter. We have so many fur babies that roam homeless.

Now for the main event, the opening of the gift basket. Our babies have been sniffing it all afternoon, but I told them they had to wait for Terry to get home. We are going to be opening the basket soon.

Toys and treats galore sit inside this cute basket. The babies are waiting patiently, or impatiently as the case may be.

It's just like Christmas for the babies! They cannot wait.

The first toy Terry pulled out of the gift package was a large, fuzzy, purple duck that squeaks. Awesome. Jasper looked at it, then made an attempt to bury it so the cats wouldn't get it. He and Kit seem to have a male rivalry going. The squeaking purple duck had all the animals staring at it. I put it into Jasper's toy box so we'll see if he plays with it. I gave him several of his toys out of the basket and he tried to dig into a blanket to hide it for later.

Next up, Kit and Bella received a plastic ball with a bell inside. Kit loved the fact that it rolled across the floor when he smacked it, but soon lost interest when it did not continue to flop around the floor like his buddy the clown fish does. He loves his Nemo toy.

Now we are talking! The cats also received a bag of soft chicken and turkey kitty treats from Blue. I gave the cats a couple of them, and they looked at me as if they were bummed because it wasn't more fun. It's like children receiving socks for Christmas. They throw them aside and continue unwrapping.

Of course, you've seen this already, but this is "daddy's" treat. He received two of these in the basket.

Okay, back to the pets. This is a catnip mouse the kitties unwrapped in the basket. They were happy with this toy and even Bella smacked it around a bit. That is not typical for her. She doesn't play a whole lot at her age. It made us smile to see her enjoying the faux fur mouse.

The next gift to the kitties came in a tube. It is a creamy treat for cats. I've never heard of it before or tried it with the cats, but we'll see in the next few days. Hopefully the texture is not that of the yogurt in a tube seen in supermarkets. That stuff is hard to choke down due to the texture alone. I'm hoping the babies love it.

This is the next toy we unwrapped. It claims to be a dog chew toy, but it is very hard plastic-type stuff, and it is vanilla flavored. We will see how this goes, but the dog already sniffed it and bypassed the toy. Could be because he's a small dog (chihuahua) and isn't interested in all the chewing and gnawing some dogs love to do. Or it could be because he isn't into chewing on hard plastic. I guess time will tell.

Yay! The beloved dog tennis ball. Always a favorite, even for the little guys. Jasper began to dig and claw into the bed so he could hide it somewhere. He doesn't want the cats to get it, that's for sure.

Jasper got this. Um, yeah. I don't even know what to call it, but it's pretty cool. When bounced up and down it makes a strange noise. If the animals don't want it, I'll use it to scare them out of the kitchen so I can cook dinner at night. They flew out of that room faster than I've ever seen them typically move when I went into the kitchen to remove the tags. They followed me but tore out of the room the second I moved the toy up and down. Gone. Zero to 120 mph in 2.1 seconds. Auto makers should be so lucky.

Jasper also received a tiny chew toy made specifically for small dogs. He grabbed onto this and began his quest to dig to China for burial.

Now this is what the kitties will love, at least in my mind they will love it. Terry doesn't know if they will eat it. I believe they will. I've never met a cat or dog that does not come running when a can of wet cat or dog food is popped open. The sound alone has them breaking the speed limit to get into the kitchen. We'll see, I guess.

That is the end of the items given away in a raffle from Saving Grace Adoption Center and Two Shy Brewery in Roseburg, Oregon. If you ever find yourself in Roseburg on the first Tuesday of each month, stop in to the Two Shy Brewery to check it out. Maybe you will also meet your new pet love. There are far too many animals who need homes. If you can't adopt, please donate to your favorite shelter or to the Saving Grace Adoption Center.

The center reports that they are full at this time and cannot take any more animals. During COVID many adopted animals but now that things are settling back down, nobody is adopting. The shelters are filling up with dogs and cats. Please help if you can. Adopt, donate, volunteer!
